What time do you start and finish working in my home?
I usually arrive at 9:00 am but I am flexible and can arrive on a time that better suits if needed.
I usually leave at 5:00 pm but again I am flexible and can leave on a time that better suits if needed.
Do I need to be present in the home while the job is being carried out?
There is no need. Many customers will leave me a key if they're not present during the job. Your home will be safe and secure, I will insure the property is locked up before I leave.
How many painters will be in the household?
I work alone, room to room with minimal disturbance around the property. High standard of work throughout the home.
Where are you based and what areas do you serve?
I am based in Firhouse, Killakee. I serve all of Dublin but most commonly South Dublin, I regularly work in areas such as;
Rathfarnham, Firhouse, Knocklyon, Ballycullen, Ballyroan, Ballyboden, Dundrum, Nutgrove, Tallaght, Terenure, Templeogue, Walkinstown to name some.
What would a typical job consist of, for example the re-painting of a bedroom?
The room will be completely sheeted, covered & protected, heavy duty sheets over all flooring and fresh one time use plastic sheeting covering all other areas of the room.
All parts of the room will be prepped for painting by filling/caulking/sealing over any areas of damage i.e cracking, holes, marks, water stains, mold etc. A high standard of prep work guarantees the greatest finished product.
Generally ceilings/walls given 2 coats of finishing paint, 3 coats if required. Cutting in will be neat and tidy, to a professional standard.
All woodwork and radiators will be undercoated where needed and given 1-2 coats of whichever finish is desired.
The room will be fixed back to the way it was and kept clean, no mess.
Your room will look stunning, having me in your home means you can have peace of mind knowing the job will be done right from start to finish.
What other services do you provide?
Repair work on walls, ceilings and woodwork.
Wallpaper stripping/hanging
Handpainting of uPVC Doors/Windows etc
Handpainting/Spraying of kitchen units - If preferred by any customer I can remove all doors and spray them off-site, then handpaint all remaining parts on site. Meaning no spraying is done on site in the home.
Do you paint uPVC Doors/Windows etc?
Yes I do. It is important these areas are primed and painted correctly to a high standard to ensure longevity of paint finish.
What brand of materials will be used in my home?
I work with only the top brands of paints/materials: Colourtrend, Dulux, Zinnser, Tec7, polycell just to name a few.
If I am supplying the paint it will be discussed and included in the price of the job before-hand. If the customer is supplying the paint I can advise on how much will be needed for the job and I can advise what paint finish to use etc. I will always use the best quality fillers, tools etc.. because of the variation in prices between brands of paint, ultimately you will decide what brand of paint you want to choose.
What types of finishes are there to paint?
There are many types of finishes with paint, they all differ in terms of interior, exterior, woodwork. Here are the commonly used paint finishes;
Interior Walls/Ceilings:
– Matt, a flat finish with no shine on the walls. It’s definitely the most common finish that people prefer in their house with a smooth finish. You can purchase a washable version of this paint at a higher price.
– Soft-sheen, this is a paint with a shine, it reflects light, it can be wiped clean very easily. If your walls are not in great condition, I recommend not using this paint as it can show up any imperfections.
Woodwork/Metalwork:
There are 2 types of bases in timber paint: Oil based & water based.
Water based paint will dry faster and has less of an odour, however personally I'd always recommend using an Oil based paint as it’s a more durable paint and it dries to a smoother finish.
Whether you choose oil based or waterbased timber paint, the following applies in terms of their finish;
– Eggshell, a flat finish with a low amount of shine. Very popular when painting kitchen units and furniture. Commonly used on doors, frames, skirtings. Washable and Durable paint.
– Satinwood, a finish with a shine. It’s commonly used on most woodwork, quite popular in homes. Washable and Durable paint.
– Gloss, very shiny paint. Not so commonly used inside homes nowadays, more so used on exterior metalwork, railings etc. Washable and Durable paint.
Exterior:
– Most of the exterior paints are the same as the interior, they will however have a certain amount of a shine in them, but it’s not very noticeable.
– Masonry is used to paint the exterior of your property. Most masonry paints are breathable which means they allow moisture and vapour to escape from the surface and in turn helps to insulate the property
Do you spray paint households?
I roll and hand paint traditionally, however I do offer spray painting service for kitchen units.
What’s the best brand of paint and which should I choose?
The leading brands of paint right now in my opinion are Colourtrend and Dulux.
They do vary in price, so at the end of the day it's really down to your budget which one you choose.
Colourtrend would be the more expensive paint, and Dulux/Fleetwood/Johnstone's are more affordable.
I would strongly advise that you never use un-branded or cheap paints, the better the brand, the better the finish. A cheap brand can take more coats to cover, it won’t last as long or look as well. In the long run, cheaper paints cost more.
If it's within your budget, the number one paint I'd recommend using inside your home on the walls would be: Colourtrend Interior Matt, it costs approx €100 for a 5L tin, great pigment in their colours, an excellent flat matt finish and it is wipeable, meaning you can wipe away any marks or dirt from the walls after they have been painted. If the budget for Colourtrend is not there, I'd suggest going with Dulux.
